What Do You Know?
Winter 2023
Christians don’t have all the answers, but sometimes we act like we do! To be a Christian, you need to be able to answer the most foundational questions of human experience:
Where do you come from?
The Bible declares that God has created everything (Genesis 1:1). Men and women are created in God's image, in two distinct, unchangeable genders and have a conscience, intellect, and intrinsic value. God has created us and spoken to us. The claim that humanity does not have a creator, but rather has evolved over millions of years, results in removing the only true foundation for answering life’s most important questions.
Where can you find answers?
God has revealed answers to life’s questions in the Bible. In its message and content, the Bible testifies that God is the Author. Its central message of salvation differs from every other religion because God saves us, we don't save ourselves. Why is the Bible usually the last book people read when they are troubled with questions?
Why are you here?
God has given each one of us a purpose. Our chief purpose is to live this life to the glory of God (1 Corinthians 10:31). This is a truth that many people do not like. Why should they live their life for the glory of another? The Christian, whose life is changed by the gospel, wants to live for the glory of God.
What is right and wrong?
The Bible teaches us that morality comes from God (Exodus 20:7-17). God has a perfect standard revealed for us in the Ten Commandments. When we break His law, we sin. God will and must punish sin because He is a holy God, but the gospel tells us that Jesus went to the cross and suffered divine punishment for our sin. Christians must see their lives in the mirror of God’s law and then recognize their sin against God. The Lord Jesus Christ is willing and able to save sinners. The Bible affirms that whoever asks Him in faith for salvation will be saved.
Where are you going when you die?
Jesus Christ tells us that there are only two destinations for the souls of men after death (Luke 16:19-31). Those who are saved will go to heaven with Christ. Those who have never trusted Jesus as their Savior will be punished for their sin in hell. Hell is a place of torment where we are eternally separated from God. One day all of us will die. Honestly answering the question, “Where will you spend eternity?” is essential in causing us to look to Christ for salvation.
We are made by God and for God, but, sadly we live for self and for sin. As lawbreakers we are justly condemned to a lost eternity. But Jesus Christ has purchased salvation for all who will take Him as Savior and Lord of their life. Do you know this to be true? Is this true for you?
