Testimony of Maher Louis
Fall 2024
John 6: 37-40
I am very thankful to the Lord for saving me and bringing me to a church where the gospel and the Word are preached faithfully. I am grateful and humbled for this opportunity to serve Him in a new capacity.
From an early age I learned about sin, salvation, Christ Jesus, eternal life and death. I knew I was a sinner and needed to be reconciled to God. I asked the Lord to save me and forgive me for my sins, however, I did not seem to mean it as I loved the world and its attractions. Like the parable of the Sower, I was like the one that received the seed among the thorns. The Word was choked and of no effect. I tried to compensate and bargain. But this did not give peace or take away sin and guilt. I was a Christian in name, but I knew, deep in my heart, I did not truly surrender my life and will to Christ my Lord. The struggle continued for many years.
I finally came to realize that I had to come to Christ on His terms: as a poor and needy beggar, a sinner that can only be cleansed and reconciled by the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross. I learned to surrender all. No more self. Only Christ. To be a true disciple, and follower, and a servant to Christ Jesus my Lord. I am glad God knows my weaknesses and will help daily in my struggles. Thank you, Lord, for saving a wretch like me.
